Lubumbashi, November 13, 2018 - On November 6, 2018, Katanga Mining Limited issued a press release announcing the temporary suspension of exports until further notice and the sale of cobalt from the Kamoto Copper Company (KCC) project.
Gécamines would like to make the following clarifications for its part:
1. Gécamines was informed by its representatives within KCC of the discovery in some
from its trucks, a high level of uranium in cobalt hydroxide produced by KCC.
2. Gécamines was not associated with the latest communications from Katanga Mining Limited to
market, including the decision to stop exports and sales of cobalt, as well as the
additional investments.
3. The corporate bodies of KCC have not been informed on the subject.
4. Gécamines requested an emergency meeting between the technical teams of
different stakeholders, in order to adopt a common position on the issues
in accordance with our agreements and applicable laws, and before any decision is taken
which could engage him as a co-shareholder.
